Magnelis® (a product of ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products) is an innovative metal coating consisting of a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy. It was developed to provide steel with particularly long-lasting corrosion protection – even under extreme conditions. Thanks to its special composition, Magnelis® reliably protects not only the surface but also cut edges and drill holes.
Magnelis® stands for lasting durability where conventional coatings reach their limits.
Structure and composition
Magnelis® is based on a metallic coating consisting of 93.5% zinc, 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium. This special alloy provides an even protective layer that also regenerates itself on cut edges. The magnesium prevents corrosion from progressing and forms a compact, resistant barrier. Unlike pure zinc coatings, Magnelis® offers significantly extended protection, even in the event of mechanical damage.
The exact alloy composition makes all the difference – for protection at the highest level.
Advantages of Magnelis® over other coatings
Compared to conventional galvanised steel, Magnelis® offers up to three times higher corrosion resistance. The coating protects not only flat surfaces, but also edges, holes and weld seams – areas that are otherwise susceptible to rust. The guaranteed service life is up to 30 years and is ensured by the product specifications and the higher coating facilities.
The material's self-healing properties in the event of scratches or cuts also make it unique.
Magnelis® combines comprehensive protection with high efficiency – even under harsh environmental conditions.
Areas of application for Magnelis®
Magnelis® is used in numerous industries, particularly those where materials are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. These include solar power systems, agricultural technology, ventilation systems, traffic control technology and lightweight steel construction. Furthermore, C4 and C5 certification in accordance with DIN 55634-1 is available. Construction companies and planners specifically rely on Magnelis® when it comes to long-term functionality and low maintenance requirements.
Whether on land or in the air – Magnelis® is used wherever corrosion must be prevented.
